The Conference held in April 2010 was held in the context of the basic human right principle of education and health for all to achieve the following three main objectives:
- Consciousness: raising awareness among people of African descent, other ethnic minorities and Bristol community as a whole of the implications of mental health issues;
- Empowerment: Using education to empower people of disadvantaged African descent and other communities in the context of community-based development work or participatory action research (PAR);
- Community Cohesion: Using education and social networking through consultative workshops and film to promote cooperation and collaboration among diverse communities of people of African descent and other ethnic minorities and locals as a way of overcoming misunderstandings;
